Patriots - Winter Sports
The winter sports season is upon us and it looks
to be an exciting few months.
Both our varsity teams return contributing starters,
along with others fighting for vacancies in the lineup.
Our Varsity Ladies are the defending Sunset League
champions, and look to return to playoff action at
the end of the season once again. Starters senior
Stormi Stecher and sophomore Sabrina Johnson return
as 1st Team All-Sunset League selections, with Johnson
also being named as the league's Player of the Year
and 1st Team All-Division 5 in San Diego County. Several
other juniors and sophomores return from last year's
21-3 team, and we can't wait to see them succeed.
Boys varsity returns three starters from last year's
playoff team, juniors Ryan Boschen, Andres Perez and
Josh Smith. Hard work in the off-season will have
to make up for the lost production of last year's
seniors, but the team of 16 players has the deepest
bench since 2005. Newcomers to the team will help
to extend the boys' playoff run to three straight
years by competing and improving as a team.
A new theme for our athletic department this year
is ONE equals Won. It is a simple yet profound concept
that can be related to both team sports and the Bible,
meeting two our school-wide goals for our student.
When Paul writes to the Romans in Chapter 12, he
asks them to look at the many different parts of their
body, and see how each has a special function. Then
Paul compares this thought to the “body”
of Christ, in other words a group of Christ-followers
like a church. He points out how Christians are all
part of one body or group in Christ, and each of us
has a different work to do. He also says that since
we are one in Christ, we belong to each other, and
need each other to perform how we ought to.
So too it is with team sports. Everyone can’t
lead the team in points or inbound the ball at the
same time. Players have to work together, do their
job, and then you will have the best chance at success.
We play as a team by working together, trusting one
another, and encouraging our teammates.
When we are ONE, we have WON.
Go Patriots!
